[01 OOM] PicoDevimon's No Good Bad Day
It’s a short fly back to Castle Vamdemon, but it’s long enough for PicoDevimon to think up his story: Vamdemon doesn’t need to know that the Chosen have another Perfect-level on their side now, after all, not when he’s leaving this world soon anyway. He’ll just say that Digitamamon met with an unfortunate accident, and that the kids have all gone their separate ways.
He arrives at the throne room to find Vamdemon waiting for him, with Tailmon, Wizarmon, and Phantomon around him.
“You would not believe the day I’ve had, milord,” PicoDevimon starts, but Vamdemon raises a hand to silence him.
“Tailmon informs me that the Crest of Friendship has been activated, that the bearer of the Crest of Courage has returned, and that Courage, Friendship, Reliability, and Hope now travel together,” Vamdemon says. “And after you promised me you would see to it that their Crests never shone.”
Tailmon smirks. Wizarmon tugs down the brim of his hat, averting his gaze.
PicoDevimon flutters backwards a little. “-- Ah, well, you see, it’s only one, and -- …”
“Be grateful, PicoDevimon. For the moment, I still have a use for you. I won’t reward this failure with death,” Vamdemon says, picking up his glass of wine. He inhales deeply from it, then takes a delicate sip. “... Still. You could do with learning your place, and the bats haven’t eaten for days.”
He snaps his fingers, and a swarm of bats descend from the ceiling, crowding around PicoDevimon and biting at him, tearing strips from his wings and face. One finds its way to his eyes and begins gnawing.
“Wizarmon, be sure that the bats leave PicoDevimon alive,” Vamdemon says.
“As you command, my lord.”
“Splendid,” Vamdemon says. “Preparations are nearly complete. Soon, the gate will open, and we will leave this place and pursue our destiny. I would hate to lose a loyal pet before that day.”
