[tri OOM] "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal."
The last of the Chosen vanish into the gate, swallowed up by the light.
Daigo cracks a small smile, folding his arms. “This brings back memories.”
“Yeah,” Maki says, softly. “It sure does.”
She takes a step forward, then another. She can hear Daigo yelling, calling for her to come back, but she can barely hear him. As he darts forward to try to catch her, she steps into the light, and he reels back.
Maki feels her feet lift off the ground, and she turns and smiles at Daigo as she floats up, trying to hide her tears.
“Sorry, Daigo,” she says. “For all of this. Everything that’s happened.”
Daigo stares up at her, and for a second she thinks he’s going to enter the light after her. He doesn’t.
“What are you talking about, Maki?!”
“The reboot,” Maki says. “I’m finally going to see Bakumon again. Just like we talked about. I don’t expect you to forgive me, but I hope you understand.”
She feels the event horizon of the gate touch her, and she floats into the light. Behind her, with a crackle and a flash, the gate shuts.
