Yamato's room is as neat as ever, apart from all the maps and notepads on his desk, where he's been working out repair plans and routes.

The video games he mentioned are also readily apparent: There are three on the kitchen work surface, the boxes still in their outer plastic packaging: What looks like a brightly coloured kart racing game, Rodrigo's Super Kart Racing; an equally brightly coloured fighting game, Deadly Iron Brawl X; and what seems to be a fairly serious looking flight simulator game, entitled Jet Flight Simulator 2006.

"I haven't actually played any of them yet," Yamato notes.

"Yes and all the family lines especially of nobility."

Yamato wrinkles his nose a little at that.

"Yeah, my grandfather had to learn something similar. Not for any good reason, it was just useless information for the sake of it for him," he says, shaking his head. "Knowing all that stuff is probably going to be a lot more useful for you, though, what with all the courtly intrigue in your world."

"Yeah, it has been helpful sometimes." Though usually in a weird way since Toby's problems are never simple.

"It's a boon for diplomacy, too. Probably going to come in handy plenty in the future."

"Already has been, all part of what I do. Help with the diplomacy since Toby isn't good at it."

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"I think you've mentioned before that she's not exactly a born diplomat," Yamato says wryly. "I usually leave that stuff to Taichi. It's not exactly polished diplomacy, but he seems to make it work."

"She knows how to behave in court and does sometimes remember various intricacies. But I'm better at knowing them than she is which makes sense. My training's focused on that. Digimon seem fairly forgiving of rougher diplomacy."

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Yeah, they're ... generally not amazingly polished diplomats themselves," Yamato says, shaking his head. "Which reminds me that I need to meet with TonosamaGekomon before he and his forces head back home. Let him know he's paid off his debt to us, establish exactly what kind of debt we owe him now."

Yamato's not exactly thrilled about being indebted to anyone, but there's no way to get around it this time.

"Ah, yes, debts are important. Need to know exactly where you stand."

Debts define so much of the Fae world.

"He's an important ally. Might even be one of our most important allies, given that he can field forces without having to spend weeks mustering them first," Yamato says. "And somewhere down the road, he's going to want something in return for helping us this time, may as well get it hashed out now exactly how big a favour that's going to be."

"Yes, that's not the kind of surprise you want."

"Right? Might just be a wake-up call for the next time he decides to sleep for a decade. We can do that easily. But better to have at least a rough idea in advance."

"I hope you can get it." He knows that being able to plan ahead doesn't always happen.

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Yeah. I never like dealing with TonosamaGekomon, he's very, er ..." Yamato grimaces. "Boisterous."

"That would add to the amount of work."

[angry_friendship_wolf]

Wry: "He's a pain. Loud, obnoxious, drunk half the time, weirdly obsessed with karaoke."

"There's karaoke in the Digital World?"

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Yeah, the whole reason we -- well, Mimi, Taichi, and Jyou -- met TonosamaGekomon in the first place was because he'd gone to sleep for a hundred years after losing a karaoke contest," Yamato says, completely deadpan. "And the Gekomon wanted Mimi to wake him up."

"The Digital World is so weird."

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Please, like you've never gone to sleep for a century because you lost a singing contest," Yamato teases. "I bet it happens to you all the time."

"Only if someone hits me with elf shot."

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Elf shot? What's that?"

[heatherandsteel]

"Oberon's Law says that Fae shouldn't kill each other so elf shot was created. When it hits a Fae, we fall asleep for a hundred years."

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Seems like a circuitous way of getting around that law," Yamato murmurs. "Kind of missing the point, too. Surely the idea when he made that law wasn't for people to just find an alternative that wasn't technically killing."

"It was meant to be merciful and to keep us from fighting, but didn't work."

He sighs and leans against Yamato.
