[tri OOM] Odaibananigans with Barry and Cisco

When Yamato opens the door to the safehouse and ushers Barry and Cisco through, it's not as busy as it usually is, but there are still a few people milling around the main room of the apartment.

Sora and Jyou are both at the kitchen table, Sora carefully working on a flower arrangement while Jyou reads through a medical textbook and scribbles notes. Nearby, on the couch, with a laptop resting on his knees, is a boy who looks almost identical to Yamato, minus a few years and with much more boyish features.

Yamato carefully shuts the door behind them. "Welcome to Chez Chosen, I guess," he says, crossing to the kitchen table to pick up his digivice and clip it to his belt.

Back on course again, Barry is starting to build up momentum and once again creeps up on the other three.

"Did you know a narwhal's horn is actually a tooth?" Barry says, skimming around a tight corner and edging up a little further.

"Why be one when you can be both?" Cisco says in agreement to the coolness.

Cut off by Yamato, Cisco shouts, "AH! You! Speed thief!"

"Ikkakumon's horn is actually a mithril casing for torpedoes," Taichi says wisely. "He can shoot it and regrow it, like the best narwhals."

Yamato chuckles at Cisco, veering towards a ramp. "Look out, Barry's on our tail again."

"No way! Cooool," Cisco says when he hears about Ikkakumon's torpedo horn.

"Taichi, you got him?" Cisco asks, checking Barry's progress as he edges closer again.

"You can't torpedo anything while we're in the city," Barry declares before Cisco's excitement runs too far with the idea.

The end of the race is coming up and Barry decides to go for a risky move, taking a turn as sharply as he can to gain more ground and a boost heading into the final stretch.

"Kinda busy trying to overtake Yama," Taichi replies, the nose of his boat knocking against the back of Yamato's as he tries to swerve around him.

"Trying and failing," Yamato says mildly, going for as many boosters as he can to gain speed for this last stretch.

While Taichi goes after Yamato, Barry tries to use the opportunity to squeak past Yamato on the other side.

Biting his lip, Barry wills his boat to move up faster, excitement growing as the finish line gets ever closer.

On the far outside of all of them, Cisco hits a speed boost and a ramp, taking to the air and trying to come down ahead.

"Ohhhh, it's gonna be close!" he shouts.

"Don't even try it, aniki," Yamato says, veering his boat to try to shove Barry into a spin.

Taichi takes the opportunity to pull up alongside Yamato, searching for one last speed boost to try to get ahead.

"Ahhh, heyyy!" Barry twists both in his seat and his boat, trying to avoid Yamato's shove and ends up turning his boat in towards Yamato, dangerously close to ramming his stern into Yamato's.

Cisco brings his boat in closer to the pack, snagging a speed boost and coming up alongside Taichi's boat, trying to squeeze him out as everything comes down to the wire.

"Cisco whyyy," Taichi whines plaintively as Cisco squeezes him out, forcing him to fall back a little.

Yamato gives a quick growl, just barely avoiding getting knocked off course by Barry's stern, hunching his shoulders in as he focuses on trying to reach the finish line.

Barry's lost it and goes sailing off course. Yamato avoids him, and Barry just misses Taichi, but his boat broadsides Cisco's and takes both of them out of the running.

"Oh man... " he says with a pout.

"BARRYYYYY!" Cisco shouts, his cry sounding a whole lot like Captain Kirk's famous, 'KHAAAAAAAAAN!'

"I'll remember your sacrifice, Barry," Taichi says. "We'll build a statue of you. In a speedboat."

He tries to overtake Yamato, and the two jostle for the lead, before Yamato inches over the finish line ahead of him.

Yamato throws up his arms in celebration, throwing a grin in Taichi's direction.

"Well at least my teammate one," Barry says with a laugh, reaching over to clap Yamato on the shoulder.

[makes_the_toys]

"SABOTEUR!" Cisco declares, pointing at Barry. "Yamato, I had you beat."

Yamato laughs, leaning over to nudge his head against the side of Barry's.

To Cisco, he adds: "Please. You did not have me beat."

"Our team won the moral victory," Taichi says loftily.

"Dude, come on," Barry says with a laugh towards Cisco. "I was trying to get a win, not knock you out. Besides, these guys both had you beat."

Leaving behind the boats, Barry looks to Yamato and Taichi and asks cheerfully, "Alright, tie breaker is done, what now?"

"I hate moral victories," Cisco grouses. He gets over it pretty quickly, though, and knocks Taichi in the shoulder.

"You totally almost had him."

"I totally did," Taichi says. Yamato gives a grumbling noise, knocking his head against Taichi's as well.

"If you're hungry, there's a cafe up here," Taichi says to Barry. "They do pizza, we could probably get one big enough for all of us."

"Maybe get an extra one for Barry," Yamato notes.

"Pizza sounds good," Barry says. He throws a laugh at Yamato and says, "I'm good with just a few slices."

Not that he couldn't eat a whole pizza but, he would be good with a snack and didn't need to hog a whole pie to himself.

"Yeah, Taichi, unless they make a pizza the size of this island, they don't have one big enough to share with Barry," Cisco jokes.

"Pizza and a Coke does sound good, though. Time to fuel up."

"It's important to keep your fuel levels up," Yamato says to Barry, somewhat sternly. "Otherwise you'll end up with a drip in your arm again."

"Alright, well," Taichi laughs, intervening before Yamato can get too mother-hen-y. "You and Cisco go order us as much food as you like, Barry and I will find somewhere to sit."

Yamato grumbles, but heads towards the cafe counter all the same, while Taichi searches out a table by the window.

"Dude, c'mon," Barry says with a chuckle. "It's not like I've been using my speed. I'm not gonna crash from some walking around and video games."

Amused, but also touched by Yamato's concern, Barry nods to Taichi.

"Yeah, let's find a spot."

He heads off with Taichi, throwing a wave at Cisco and Yamato.
