[tri OOM] Odaibananigans with Barry and Cisco

When Yamato opens the door to the safehouse and ushers Barry and Cisco through, it's not as busy as it usually is, but there are still a few people milling around the main room of the apartment.

Sora and Jyou are both at the kitchen table, Sora carefully working on a flower arrangement while Jyou reads through a medical textbook and scribbles notes. Nearby, on the couch, with a laptop resting on his knees, is a boy who looks almost identical to Yamato, minus a few years and with much more boyish features.

Yamato carefully shuts the door behind them. "Welcome to Chez Chosen, I guess," he says, crossing to the kitchen table to pick up his digivice and clip it to his belt.

"I mean, my racing skills are pretty on point," Cisco brags, "but you're not too shabby either and this guy probably, too."

Cisco throws a gesture at Taichi, certain the race is going to be both competitive and a lot of fun.

"We'll all probably dust Barry, though," Cisco adds with a cheeky grin.

"Until Yamato decides we should have a biting contest to the death or something," Taichi says, wrinkling his nose. "It could happen at any time."

Yamato ignores that, giving Cisco another nudge.

"I'm sure Barry will do just fine," Yamato laughs, patting Barry on the shoulder. "It's not like he doesn't have the reflexes for it."

"Hey," Barry says to Cisco, wounded. "You just watch."

He turns to laugh at Taichi, shaking his head.

"That sounds like an ultimate tie-breaker, I'm sure it'll be awhile before he takes it that far. He loves the rivalry thing, you know," Barry says to Taichi.

"Sometimes I wonder if Barry even has a license," Cisco says suspiciously. "I mean, have you ever seen him drive? Or heard him talk about driving?"

Hearing Taichi, Cisco nods, "I could see that being a contest he would choose."

"I don't love the rivalry thing, shut up," Yamato mutters. "Hell, we can have that contest right now. Three vs one, I know my teeth are sharper than any of yours."

"It's not exactly a fair contest," Taichi protests, wrinkling his nose.

"Oh that's right, you hate it," Barry says, nodding his head to the reminder, then giving a smirk at Yamato.

"Dude, don't even go there, I will bite your face off," Cisco says. "I am the mongoose."

"Not like I ever asked for a rivalry," Yamato says, long-suffering. "Taichi's the one who insisted we be friends."

Taichi holds up his hands. "Guilty."

Yamato's gaze flicks over to Cisco. "Please. I'd have your face bitten off in seconds, and then you'd be like 'oh no, my face,' but it'd be too late."

"How dare he," Barry quips with a laugh.

"Okay, which racing game are we playing?" Because there appears to be a bunch.

"Race cars, speed boats, motorcycles? There's a horse racing one if you guys want to get a work out in."

"Yama, I will gnaw your looks right off," Cisco returns. "You'll be left going, 'Oh no, now all I have is my fashionably spikey hair now'."

"Motorcycles would give Yama too much of an advantage, he actually rides one in real life," Taichi says thoughtfully. "Same with horses, because they can't be that different to riding a giant wolf. Let's go with speedboats, that'll put us all on an even footing. Probably."

"I'll chew your hair off, too, kid," Yamato says to Cisco. "I'll chew your entire head off, and you'll be like 'mmmf, mmf mmf mmmmf!' because you won't have a mouth."

"Sounds good," Barry agrees to Taichi, then turns to Cisco and Yamato.

"Hey, how about less threats of cannibalistic mauling and more speedboat racing?"

Cisco opens his mouth, shuts it when Barry talks, then sends a retort towards Yamato while Cisco picks out one of the games to settle into.

"I'll speedboat your face."

Yamato snorts, stepping towards the game that Cisco picks out, as Taichi does the same.

"Heads up, I'm calling dibs on the orange speedboat," Taichi says. "It's my right to get a speedboat in my Crest colour."

"Guess that means I'm picking the blue one," Yamato says.

"Red," Barry calls promptly as he settles in.

"You guys suck," Cisco says, disappointed to realize he doesn't have a color scheme of his own to fall back on.

"Fine, purple, because I'm royalty," he decides, selecting a boat and waiting for the race to begin.

"Purple suits you," Yamato says mildly, settling in and focusing his attention on the screen, ready to go.

A countdown ticks down from five, and as it hits zero, Yamato and Taichi both go roaring off, spraying digital water in their wakes.

"Thanks," Cisco says, then guns it when the race begins.

About even with Yamato and Taichi, Cisco speeds along and begins humming the tune to 'Drunk Sailor'.

Barry throws down the acceleration as well, speeding off with the rest.

It takes him a little while to get used to steering the boat, and he definitely veers off course a couple of times before steadying out.

With ground (or water) to make up, Barry sets his site on catching ramps and speed-ups to close the distance.

"If Iori was here, he'd cinch this," Taichi says, speeding off a ramp. "Can't be too different from piloting Submarimon, right?"

Yamato makes a thoughtful, non-committal noise at that, grabbing a speed boost to try to pull ahead.

"It's different," Barry says, speeding around a corner. "At least, going fast in real life isn't the same as doing it in a game for me."

Granted they aren't playing a running game, but still the control and reactions at 'high-speed' are still different to get a handle on.

"Do you guys ever take passengers?" Cisco asks, "Because I think it would be awesome to ride a Digimon."

Cisco makes an attempt to knock his boat against Yamato's, hoping to throw Yamato off course and take a ramp himself.

"Wouldn't recommend being a passenger on Garurumon. His feathers are razor sharp. Yamato's figured out how to not get sliced up while riding him, but it's not safe for anyone else," Taichi complains.

"You could probably ask Jyou for a ride around the bay on Ikkakumon," Yamato says to Cisco. "Or get Sora to give you a ride on Birdramon. Those are both pretty safe."

He grumbles as Cisco knocks him wide of a ramp, then curves towards a speed booster, trying to snatch it first.

Slowly Barry manages to catch up to the others, creeping up on them as they all zip through the water.

"That would be pretty cool," Barry says about the idea of Cisco riding a Digimon. "So long as people aren't going to like, freak out."

The city did just survive a big invasion recently.

"Yes, take that Yama," Cisco crows, then grumbles when Yamato gets the speed booster.

"Selfish," he says about Yamato, referring either to Yamato stealing the speed booster or being the only one who can ride Garurumon.

His mood picks right back up when he excitedly says, "I'm so down for a bay cruise or bird ride."
