[tri OOM] Odaibananigans with Barry and Cisco

When Yamato opens the door to the safehouse and ushers Barry and Cisco through, it's not as busy as it usually is, but there are still a few people milling around the main room of the apartment.

Sora and Jyou are both at the kitchen table, Sora carefully working on a flower arrangement while Jyou reads through a medical textbook and scribbles notes. Nearby, on the couch, with a laptop resting on his knees, is a boy who looks almost identical to Yamato, minus a few years and with much more boyish features.

Yamato carefully shuts the door behind them. "Welcome to Chez Chosen, I guess," he says, crossing to the kitchen table to pick up his digivice and clip it to his belt.

Barry stands by, watching and ready to root Yamato on.

He's also prepared to shout out a bunch of coaching advice like, 'Duck!' 'Punch!' 'Watch out!', whether it's actually helpful or not.

Button mashing is certainly a tried and true method when it comes to video game combat.

Cisco, however, knows the moves and he uses them. As a seasoned gamer he not only uses the specials and combos, he's also very good about blocking and counter striking.

Taichi cheers Cisco on, gripping his shoulders and watching from behind.

Yamato, meanwhile, does his best to put up a fight, but his character is flat on his back with a depleted health bar before long, prompting a quiet grumble of frustration.

"Hey, you hung in there pretty good," Barry tries to encourage Yamato. "I think you even got in a few special power moves."

[makes_the_toys]

"Yes! Get some!" Cisco crows. "How you like me now, Yama?"

Cisco throws a grin, showing that he's only teasing.

Yamato does his best to give Cisco some wide, soulful puppydog eyes, of the 'how could you do this? Oh, jail for Cisco, jail for Cisco for a thousand years' type, but he can only keep it up for a few seconds before chuckling.

"Totally by accident," he says to Barry, shaking his head. To Cisco, he flashes a grin and adds: "Good job, kid, I guess that's a point for Team Cisco."

"Yeah it is," Taichi says, clapping Cisco on the shoulder. "Team Cisco's going to sweep this whole thing. You two might as well give up now."

"I've learned that 'by accident' totally counts in a fight," Barry replies with a laugh.

'On purpose' is definitely better, but there is such a thing as a lucky shot.

"You two should totally surrender," Cisco agrees. "Except don't because Taichi and I are going to relish this victory."

"Didn't learn that from me," Yamato says airily. Beat. "I think."

He steps away from the machine, clapping Barry on the shoulder. "Anyway, you've got this. Taichi's all talk."

"Hey, I've played video games before. Once or twice," Taichi protests. "I've got more experience than you at least, Yama."

"No, you're one of the ones who taught me moves so I don't have to rely on dumb luck," Barry replies, hooking out an elbow to nudge Yamato with it before stepping forward to take up position in front of the game.

He selects his character randomly and laughs at what comes up.

"Aww, I'm a panda!" Barry says, enamored and delighted by his fighter.

"You've got this," Cisco cheers, moving aside and patting Taichi on the back.

"I'm totally here to coach if you need advice and special moves." Cisco is fully prepared to not only root Taichi on, but shout out button combos to get him through the matchup.

Yamato turns a little red at that, ducking his head, but nudges Barry in return.

"I'm taking Yoshimitsu, then," Taichi says, stepping up. "He seems like he'd kill a panda."

"You're really going to help Taichi murder a poor, fuzzy, endangered animal who just wants to eat bamboo?" Yamato asks Cisco. "What did pandas do to you?"

"Noooo," Barry says, alarmed by the threat upon the cute panda. "What kind of monster hurts a panda?"

Barry goes into the fight ready to do all he can to keep the panda alive, including running few times when that seems like the best option.

"Good choice," Cisco says with approval.

"I would skin a panda and make fuzzy underwear if it meant Tekken victory!" Cisco retorts at Yamato.

Cisco pauses, then backtracks that a little.

"Okay, maybe I wouldn't go that far. Unless Barry doesn't stop running. Stand still and fight! Accept your extinction, panda!"

"Running's a perfectly valid strategy when you're a panda and you're being chased by some kind of evil cyborg ninja," Yamato insists to Cisco, before adding to Taichi, sourly: "I'm going to tell your sister you kill pandas."

Taichi ignores that particular threat, doing his best to chase the panda in question down and whack it with a sword.

"Running is a valid strategy for other not-pandas, too," Barry points out, urging his panda to run for its life.

For a moment Barry gets stuck trying to escape and in a panic starts button mashing, throwing a flurry of fuzzy-pawed punches and kicks at the cyborg ninja.

"Your face kills pandas," Cisco counters at Yamato.

Clamping a hand on Taichi's arm, Cisco gives it a shake, excitedly shouting, "Get him! Get him! Get the panda!"

"This is why pandas are nearly extinct. Because of fighting competitions," Yamato says, with the bitterness that idea warrants.

Taichi is mostly button mashing himself, flailing his sword at the panda without much of a plan or coordination.

"No, no, no-- " Barry says urgently, desperately fighting back and almost squeaking out a victory before a couple of sword swings knock the panda down for good.

"Oh! I was so close," Barry says, grinning. "Few more hits and the panda would have had you."

[makes_the_toys]

"Taichi wins!" Cisco announces in his best fighting game announcer voice. "Victory for Team Cisco."

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Good going," Taichi says to Barry, flashing a grin. "I'm, er, pretty sure the sword gave me an unfair advantage. Pandas don't have the thumbs to pick one up, after all."

Yamato claps Barry on the back, adding: "You did better than I did."

[run_barry]

"It was a good game," Barry replies back to Taichi. "I'm happy with how well my panda hung in there, sword or not."

[makes_the_toys]

"Well that's already best two out of three, you guys wanna keep tasting defeat here and go again, or change it up?" Cisco asks, grinning.

"Let's change it up," Yamato says. "Any other games you're dying to play?"

"I think we should get to pick," Barry says. "Since their team chose first."

He looks around then back to Yamato, "What do you think?"
