[tri OOM] Odaibananigans with Barry and Cisco

When Yamato opens the door to the safehouse and ushers Barry and Cisco through, it's not as busy as it usually is, but there are still a few people milling around the main room of the apartment.

Sora and Jyou are both at the kitchen table, Sora carefully working on a flower arrangement while Jyou reads through a medical textbook and scribbles notes. Nearby, on the couch, with a laptop resting on his knees, is a boy who looks almost identical to Yamato, minus a few years and with much more boyish features.

Yamato carefully shuts the door behind them. "Welcome to Chez Chosen, I guess," he says, crossing to the kitchen table to pick up his digivice and clip it to his belt.

Yamato leads them out of the safehouse, itself really just a small apartment in a large apartment block, and leads them downstairs, until they eventually emerge from the front gate.

The scent of sea air is strong here, and they're close enough to the edge of the island that it can be seen, not so much a coast as a straight, steep drop-off of a few feet, with a railing around the edge.

It's not a long walk at all to get into the entertainment district, barely a few minutes, at which point the streets become much busier and the buildings much denser. There's plenty of tourists meandering about, and a significant presence of men in gaudy business suits with tattoos just visible over the collar, a few of whom wave and give cheerful greetings of 'Ishi-chan' or 'Ishida-kun,' and a few yells of 'Yagami-kun.'

"Arcade's not far," Yamato remarks to the Barry and Cisco, Taichi giving a quick nod of agreement.

Barry follows, looking around as they leave the complex and make it out onto the street.

"Wow, different view than Central City," Barry remarks, looking out over the water.

Also a lot more crowded, though Barry navigates it easily enough; sticking close to Yamato and Taichi, with an eye on Cisco to make sure he keeps up.

"You guys are popular," Barry notes to the calls that come their way.

Once they're walking Cisco immediately pulls out his phone and starts taking pics. He snaps a few of the sea and the city, and takes some of the other three from the side and the back of their heads as he trails behind.

"Great, I'm excited to see what sort of gaming experience you guys offer here," Cisco notes when Yamato announces that they're close.

"This also might be the only chance I'll ever have to kick Yamato's ass in a fight."

"We're -- not that popular, it's just a small island, everyone who lives and works here knows each other. Most of the islanders know we're the Chosen," Yamato says, a little awkwardly.

Taichi snorts. "Some of us are popular. The Kidos are the only doctors here, so everyone loves Jyou. And some people love a grumpy puppy," he says. "All the yakuza families on the island adore Yama, have done since he was a kid. Every time we need to negotiate with Old Man Hakuho, he goes in person."

"Shut up," Yamato replies dryly, rolling his eyes.

Taichi snickers, slinging an arm around Cisco's shoulders. "You've got this, Cisco. Yamato never goes to the arcade, you can beat him on thumb speed."

Barry looks over at Yamato, studying him very thoughtfully for a moment, before nodding at Taichi.

"He is a grumpy puppy, isn't he?"

"The grumpiest and the puppiest," Cisco agrees and laughs.

He shrugs a shoulder underneath Taichi's arm and says, "I dunno, he might have some natural talent even without logging in gamer hours. He showed off some mad racing skills during our Mario Kart showdown."

Yamato rolls his eyes. "Figures you three would gang up on me."

Taichi laughs, shaking his head. "That's probably just all those hours on flight sims translating over to Karting. I believe in you, you've got this."

They're approaching the arcade now, a building with a neon sign and a circular entrance that wouldn't be out of place on a spaceship, from which the sound of beeping, chirruping retro games can be heard.

"Only because we like you," Barry says, bumping his shoulder against Yamato.

Seeing the outside of the arcade, Barry smiles.

"Cool. It's been awhile since I've been to one of these."

"You could be right," Cisco acknowledges. "I beat him then, too so, either way I'm taking him down."

Yamato snaps his teeth in Barry's direction, just lightly, even as he bumps his shoulder back.

"Guess that makes me Team Cisco, then. I've barely been here either, so don't expect me to be much help," Taichi chirps.

"It's a pretty big place. Two indoor rollercoasters, some VR games, and a cafe, on top of all the retro arcade games," Yamato says. "We'll need to head up to the top floor for the arcade machines."

"Okay cool, I guess you and me are partners then, Yamato," Barry says when Taichi announces he's Team Cisco.

Walking into the place, Barry is duly impressed.

"Wow. This place is awesome."

"Totally awesome," Cisco agrees.

"Why wouldn't you guys just live here?" Cisco asks Yamato and Taichi, walking along and taking the place in. "I may never leave."

"Pleasure to work with you," Yamato says to Barry, just a little wryly. "Pretty sure we can pull out an underdog victory for Team Barry."

Taichi chuckles, shaking his head. "We're lucky that this is the off season for tourists. For a lot of the year, the place is too packed to be worth it."

"Oh, you guys are both so totally going down," Cisco declares, pointing at the pair.

"Now, bring me Tekken! Or it's closest Digi-Earth equivalent."

"I promise I'm better at video games than what you saw with the Mario Kart," Barry says to Yamato with a laugh.

Looking around and then turning his head to Taichi, Barry nods.

"I can see it being a hot spot. Glad we could come now instead of with the crowds."

"We've got Tekken," Taichi chuckles.

Inside, the place is largely lit in blues and purples, with one of the rollercoasters curving overhead and a circular room splitting off into different corridors. Yamato takes a few seconds at the counter to buy them all tickets, before ambling back towards the group and leading them towards the stairs.

"Good to know you're okay at video games," he says to Barry, belatedly, "I'm relying on you to win most of our points. There's a darts machine too, though, I'm pretty confident I can kick Taichi's ass at that."

"Please," Taichi scoffs.

"Darts, huh? You sure you trust everybody with pointy objects?" Barry jokes, nodding not so subtly in Cisco's direction.

Barry has seen Cisco almost kill himself with a sharpened boomerang, after all.

"Oh, ha-HA," Cisco replies, unamused. "I know you're talking about me and I'll just inform everybody here that you're the one who's been shish-kabobed, not me."

Nudging Taichi with an elbow, Cisco says, "If this does come down to darts or skills beyond buttons and a joystick though that is going to be all you."

"Not for lack of trying, kid," Yamato remarks. "I've seen you nearly take your head off with a boomerang."

Taichi gives a wry grin. "Don't worry, if it comes down to darts, I can handle Yama."

Yamato just snorts at that, casually releasing a pulse of freezing cold as he starts up the stairs. Taichi responds with an equally casual burst of heat.

It takes a few flights of stairs, but eventually they emerge onto the top floor, with a cafe situated to one side of the stairs, and a lit-up retro game arcade to the other.

Barry waves a hand in Yamato's direction, a clear, 'see?' gesture.

Barry side-eyes Yamato when he feels that cold, then lets out a chuckle when Taichi retaliates, giving a glance around to see if anyone else noticed while they head up the stairs.

He also spares a look towards the cafe when the top the final stairs before turning his attention to all the games.

"Cool, very retro," he says, looking over all the machines.

"You guys are the worst. Taichi is my new friend now, I'm disowning you both," Cisco declares.

While a couple of people -- island residents, by the looks of them -- throw bemused looks in Taichi and Yamato's direction, most of the people in the arcade don't seem to notice.

"You can't blame us for worrying about you. We just don't want to see you decapitate yourself with a boomerang," Yamato says reasonably, as Taichi snickers. "We starting on Tekken, then?"

"Exactly, it's only because we care, dude," Barry chimes in, smiling.

"Please, you guys are ones to talk, how many heart attacks have you given me?" Cisco counters, looking around and zeroing in on the game previously mentioned.

"Yes, Tekken, so Taichi and I can kick both your asses."

"Don't put too much faith in Taichi, he spends more time kicking a ball around than practising his video games," Yamato says airily, heading towards the Tekken machines.
